What skincare should I actually do when I have zero time?

You used to have a routine. Then life took over, and skincare became one more thing you stopped having time for.

This happens to so many of the mums I see in clinic.

Somewhere between broken sleep, feeding schedules, and just getting through the day, your own skin drops to the bottom of the list. Not because you stopped caring. Because there was nothing left to give it.

You do not need a ten-step routine

Most skincare advice assumes you have twenty minutes and a quiet bathroom. You don't. The good news is you don't need either.

Skin health comes down to a handful of things done consistently, not a long list of products used occasionally.

A packed shelf you never touch does less for your skin than three products you actually use.

What actually helps

SPF, every single day. This is the one product that protects everything else you try to achieve later. Skipping it undoes progress faster than any product adds it.

A retinol or vitamin A product at night, used a few times a week. This supports collagen and skin renewal without requiring an elaborate routine. Start low and build up slowly if your skin has not seen an active ingredient in a while. If you are currently breastfeeding, skip retinol for now and check with your doctor or a skin professional before adding it back in.

Hyaluronic acid and peptides, applied to damp skin before you seal it in with a moisturiser. This helps your skin hold onto hydration through the day, particularly useful if sleep and stress have left your skin looking tired.

What you can skip for now

Sheet masks, elaborate multi-step layering, and anything that asks for more time than you have. These are not wrong, they are just not where your time is best spent right now. Add them back in later if and when you have the space.

You deserve a routine that fits your life

Three products, used consistently, will do more for your skin than a full shelf used occasionally. Once you know your exact skin type, choosing the right three becomes far easier.
